Salam, to fellow bloggers and readers of this blog.
It has been reported on news that a patient in Singapore, who suffered from the COVID19 virus had succumbed to her disease, even after doctors have declared her as virus-free a week earlier. According to the report;
"She had been declared virus-free nine days earlier, but the infection had already taken a toll on her body, her daughter told The Straits Times. Her vital organs, including her kidneys and liver, were failing and she was in a bad shape."
It was also reported that the doctors have declared her as brain dead and was relying on the life support machine as the virus had spread to her other vital organs. According to her eldest daughter, “She had been fighting very hard and won against Covid-19, but her body was already in a bad shape. We realized that it was time to say goodbye.”
Her remains was allowed to brought back by the family for funeral rites as she had been declared virus-free.
The deceased, Salha Mesbee was tested positive for the COVID19 on March 26 after returning to Singapore from a family vacation in Turkey. She was sent to the ICU after complaining of breathing difficulties and was tested positive for the coronavirus a few days later. on March 26 after returning to Singapore and was sent to the ICU a few days later after reporting of breath difficulties.
It is believe that the husband of the deceased had contracted the virus while he was in Turkey, as he had developed a fever the day before returning to Singapore. According to the daughter of the decease, a week before her mother’s death, a doctor told her by phone that she was free of the coronavirus.
However, the illness had affected Salha’s organs.
All I can say from the story above is that our fight against the COVID19 virus is far from over and that it is still too early to lower our guards against it.
The Movement Control Order, is a cordon sanitaire move by the Government to control and contain the COVID19 from further spreading Malaysians all over the country. It was first implemented on March 18th 2020 by Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and had been extended 3 times ever since until May 12, 2020.
During the time of this writing, the Government have decided to imposed the CMCO (Conditional Movement Control Order) where crucial and critical businesses are allowed to be operated as usual, with an exception to businesses related to events and religious, sports, social and cultural activities that are still being suspended. Malaysians and non Malaysians are also prohibited from leaving or entering the country during this MCO period.
As an agricultural based country Malaysia is known as the world's top rubber glove maker and due to the MCO implementation there have been concerns on the exports of hand gloves especially during a pandermic which requires medical front liners to wear proper gear which includes gloves when handling patients.
Countries like Italy and France, who are members of the European Union (EU) are among countries that had been strongly affected by the virus. The EU had voiced the concern on the increasing demand for hand gloves from Malaysia but unable to supply it due to the MCO. The EU decided to sent a letter on 25 March 2020, requesting for the Government to allow the glove sectors to be operated and supply the demand as usual.
This also led to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry allowing the continuous operations and a letter was distribute by the Malaysia Rubber Glove Manufacturers Association on 27 March to all glove manufacturers in the country to informing glove factories to remain open from 1 April.
Above all, Malaysia have played her part in the international arena during this time of crisis. The fact that the COVID19 pandermic is something mankind had never encounter since the Spanish flu pandermic that broke out in 1918 with more than 50 million deaths. To date the COVID19 disease have claimed 107 lives in Malaysia and 265,076 lives globally.
The vaccine for the virus is yet to be found and will take at least a year for it to be readily develop.
Between now and until a vaccine is found to be useful to fight the virus, let's play our part to stop the virus from spreading by taking these measures; washing our hands or using the hand sanitizer after touching public amenities and keep our distance with each other when in public as the new norm.
