CAUGHT IN THE WORLD OF HALAL AND HARAM

by - Hesmel Faznee Faisal

Salam, to fellow bloggers and readers of this self proclaimed blog!

The Government had finally decided not to legalize sports gambling and will stick to its decision to do so.

Likewise, this decision has indeed given more opportunities to the underworld bookies to pursue their activities.

As reported here in the newspaper millions of ringgit had been spent by punters, either through the regular practice (that is placing bets with friends, foe or likewise Jose!) or the online process.

The Government is caught in a catch 22 situation in regards to this. We have to admit to the fact that the underworld gamblers have won hands down this time around and they are now free to roam around both the analogue and cyber world making arrangement and organizing bets without having a license to operate such businesses!

Then again, there is always a flip side of the coin (no Jose, I was not making any dear reference to the flip-flopping episode of this country!). A minister had announced here  that all of the income tax collected from the “non halal” resources will then be channeled into a special account.

It is quite puzzling to think that we now have two separate avenues for our income; the halal and the non halal.

Wouldn’t it be a bit peculiar to have that? We are fully aware  that in the end, all of the resources will go back to us through development financing and we cannot expect to have differences between the halal and the non halal consumers as this will lead to calamity and dislodge the Government’s intention of creating unity amongst us through the Spirit of 1 Malaysia!

The Government should legalized sports gambling, provided at the same time they also need to emphasize the importance in  educating the masses on the negative impact of gambling than to engage in an endless debate.

It is quite hilarious to hear all sorts of arguments from the context of halal and haram from the scholars when we know that some of them have their hands in doing haram things?

For instance, don’t you think that smoking, telling lies and spreading wild accusations on another Muslims are considered haram, looking from Islam’s point of view?

I rest my case.
