The JAIS department has done it again. This time they decided to go beyond overboard an arrested one of Malaysia’s prominent religious scholar. This scholar is none other than Dr Mohd Asri Zainal Abidin, a lecturer from this writer’s alma mater (read here)
Perhaps, the decision to arrest him was made by a group of the orthodox Islamist, whose influence in the society is decreasing, day by day. It was also due to the fact that some of the educated and critical thinking Muslims in the Malaysian society have begin to realize that not all of the knowledge spread by the so called ulamaks on Islam is true let alone is valid nor progressive.
Yesterday was the saddest day for some Muslims who still believe that Islam is a progressive religion.
To the JAIS buggers, this is the only thing this writer has to say;

Dr Asri can be sure he has few friends in JAIS or the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department. JAIS comes under the purview of Selangor PAS chief Dr Hassan Ali. Dr Asri has complained that he has been unable to get permits to preach in Selangor, a requirement for those outside the state. He has not named names but insinuated that there is a "hidden hand" behind the arrest.

The root of the conflict is that Dr Asri himself have singlehandedly dismantled all of the wrongdoings by the ulama sect. And from my personal opinion, that was the main reason some people in JAIS decided to arrest him on the charge of teaching without permit.
We are living in a moral decaying society, indeed.
