It has often been said that sometimes, words can be misunderstood. Then again, it also depends on how things have been said and done.
Outgoing Prime Minister, Pak Lah had described his retirement plans that will include gardening, planting trees, as well as doing what he likes most, fishing in a public forum recently.
He had also said that he won’t be doing anything that might be embarrassing to the Government.
This is truly “a tongue in the cheek” statement.
He had also told the audience that the Government might have some sort of official role as long as it does not have any conflict with the new leadership.
Is he expecting something from the Government, upon retirement?
This writer will not deny the contribution that he has done to the country. However, contrary to what he had been doing for the last 5 years of his premiership, this writer would prefer to rest his case and let the Bacalah readers (Jose, if there is any of them!) decide!
As soon as he became the 5th Prime Minister, the first thing Pak Lah did was to dismantle the crooked bridge and this decision had created fury by Tun Dr Mahathir towards Pak Lah’s leadership.
A lot of things had taken place during his 5 year leadership. Among them, the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition lost five states and a third of parliamentary seats to the resurgent opposition, in what were seen as the most horrible performance by the coalition party in half a century.
I think Pak Lah had done enough for the country. It is about time he enjoys his retirement. Also, it is best for him not to directly involve with the Government.
Pak Lah, happy retirement and remember, you will be treated the way people has been treating Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Malaysia Prime Minister for 22 years. And Pak Lah, you are considered lucky enough if people can still remember you.
