BETWEEN A TOOTHLESS LEADER AND A CHARISMATIC LEADERSHIP..

The UMNO Youth have collectively agreed to drop the demand to appoint their chief as a minister in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak’s cabinet. The decision was made through a meeting recently with the Prime Minister and after the Prime Minister agreed to give a grant worth RM2 million to the movement to organize their incoming “Jelajah Pemuda 1 Malaysia” programme (read here).

In this win-win situation, one question kept crawling from the back of my thought; is it that simple to close the once feared UMNO Youth’s “mouth”? Or perhaps they are more concern for the unity within UMNO and would put aside the demand? Only time would tell.

I can’t help but to wonder the bizarre situation within the Youth rank. Both UMNO Youth vice chief Datuk Razali Ibrahim and UMNO Youth exco member Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir, were appointed as Deputy Minister by the Prime Minister.

I believe the Prime Minister is well aware that sometimes immature leaders will only made things turn bad to worse. Bare in mind, this is not an attempt to imply the statement with anybody.

If UMNO Youth members could really understand and heed the true struggle of that movement, the issue of demanding their chief to be made as a Minister would not arise.

Let us all (Well, not all Jose..as some of the readers out there have strong hatred towards UMNO!) flip our history text book for a while and look at the UMNO Youth past leaders, especially during the 1950’s – 1960’s.

The late Tan Sri Senu Abdul Rahman, during his tenure had came up with a thought provoking book titled Mental Revolution. The book comprises of interesting articles with the Malays as the subject of discussion had became an instant hit among the Malay scholars.

Before him were the late Tun Sardon Jubir who as the youth chief, initiated the date of our Independence and played a convincing role as a pressure group leader on then Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman. He had also demanded from the British to allow the Jalur Gemilang be hoisted up shortly after the Union Jack were raised down from the flagpole.

This incident had created discomfort towards the British who felt this as a form of insult by Tun Sardon. These two great figures are examplar of what great leadership is all about and things we would want to see from the current leadership!

We are not too bothered with all the petty demands by the current UMNO Youth. I doubt some (let me rephrase it again, Jose; only some!) who are in the group would want to leave behind their wealth (among them are the “grasshopper eye” Mercedez Benz and a range collections of expensive golf sets!) and fought tooth and nail for the pride of their own race i.e the Malays.

I believe it is a ripe (Jose, observe the word I used is “ripe” and not “right”!) time, the UMNO Youth movement go through the defragmented procedure and mend back all the wrong doings that has been going on for more than a year.

KEKAYAAN

Di dalam hidup, tiada satu pun insan waras yang tidak mahu mendapat kesenangan.

Semuanya ingin hidup mewah, kerana bila hidup mewah mereka akan menjadi senang. Namun, dalam menuju kepada kemewahan kadangkala kita terpaksa melalui “sepak terajang” kehidupan. Jika kita berniaga, besiap sedialah untuk menikam dan ditikam. Namun tak kurang juga yang merasa iri hati melihat orang lain hidup dalam kemewahan.

Baru-baru ini sebuah akhbar tempatan telah menyiarkan artikel menarik mengenai senarai jutawan dan “billionwan” di Malaysia. Saudagar gula, Tan Sri Robert Kuok masih lagi kekal sebagai “billion”wan di Malaysia. Saya jangkakan ianya tidak akan lama kerana selepas ini mungkin beliau hanya akan kekal sebagai seorang jutawan sahaja jika Malaysia mulai sedar tentang keburukan mengambil gula dan berhenti mengambilnya! (I’m joking, Jose!)

Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhari masih lagi kekal sebagai “billion”wan Bumiputera tunggal di dalam senarai top ten!

Apa yang menarik di sini ialah kemunculan anak bekas Perdana Menteri Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Datuk Mokhzani ke dalam senarai. Beliau pernah menceburkan diri sekejap di dalam politik apabila menjadi Bendahari UMNO Merbok namun kemudian mengundurkan diri di atas sebab-sebab tertentu. Beliau pernah jatuh dan tergelungsur semasa Pak Lah (apalah aktiviti beliau sekarang agaknya?) menjadi Perdana Menteri dan bangun semula.

Namun, ada juga pihak tertentu masih merasakan ianya tidak kena seperti yang ditulis di sini. Pihak itu barangkali terlupa bahawa mereka juga pernah berada di dalam kelompok itu. Tidak dapat tidak, pihak ini juga pernah menikmati hasil kekayaan DEB. Malah, saya amat mengerti kerana kebetulan kenalan saya (Well, it was my uncle I was referring to, for crying out loud!) pernah menikmati sedikit tempias-tempias tersebut semasa beliau menjadi “orang kanan” kepada pihak ini!

Bagi saya, soalnya bukanlah samada sistem DEB ini pincang atau tidak (saya tidak mengatakan ianya sempurna dan tidak pula mengatakan ianya tidak elok!) tetapi yang paling penting ialah ingin melihat ramai lagi peniaga dan usahawan Bumiputera lain turut “meloncat naik” ke atas top ten senarai tersebut. Jika kita mempunyai sekurang-kurang 4-5 orang “billion”wan di dalam senarai tersebut, saya yakin kita mungkin boleh menghapuskan sedikit demi sedikit DEB.

Soal mengkayakan puak-puak tertentu itu hanya bersifat subjektif. Namun affirmative action itu lebih penting dari membincangkan tentang puak itu kaya disebabkan dia berada di dalam parti tertentu. Bunyinya seakan “sore loser” atau “cry baby”.

THE TRAFFIC JAM NUISANCE..

It's a "jamming" sensation all the way from Shah Alam to Ipoh.

There are few reasons that caused this massive traffic jam.

The attitude of some irate drivers are also one of the cause, apart from the high number of cars on the road.

Not to mentioned the kiasu attitude of Singaporean drivers who like to use the emergency lane to overtake cars.

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR WITH A FOOD FOR THOUGHT..

Salam, to fellow bloggers and readers of this blog.

I would like to again take this opportunity to wish a Happy Chinese Year to all my Chinese friends out there.

It came across to my attention every time we jointly celebrated the Chinese New Year with our Chinese friends (or relatives) and seeing them burning firecrackers. I often think to myself; do any of them got injured while doing it?

Playing firecrackers has been part of their culture and religion but the quandary relating to this act with the Malay culture; especially during Hari Raya celebration is quite puzzling.

As a matter of fact, we have often read in the news about some Malay kids who had lost their fingers due to an injury while playing crackers but have we ever heard news on any Chinese kid who lost theirs?

The Malays perhaps are way too advanced in creating new explosives or probably they are not too happy with the usual standard firecracker and felt the necessity to create new ones for the sake of having fun?

It is indeed a food for thought!

KERJASAMA..

Hari perayaan merupakan waktu yang paling ditunggu-tunggu oleh semua rakyat Malaysia. Tanpa mengira agama, bangsa mahupun darjat, semua akan turut sama meraikannya. Mereka yang berkemampuan akan membelanjakan sejumlah wang untuk menyambutnya dan secara tidak langsung akan dapat membantu mengembangkan lagi ekonomi Negara.

Manakala mereka yang tidak berkemampuan akan dapat turut sama menikmatinya, terutamanya ketika ruma terbuka diadakan di seluruh Negara dan ianya akan diserikan lagi jika majlis Rumah Terbuka diadakan oleh Kerajaan. Apabila bercakap mengenai sambutan perayaan, ianya diadakan secara subjektif dan bukan hanya tertumpu kepada sambutan besar seperti Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Tahun Baru Cina, Deepavali dan lain-lain.

Sejak kebelakangan ini saya terasa seakan wujud satu perlumbaan di antara pihak-pihak tertentu di dalam menganjurkan majlis perayaan ini. Seperti yang berlaku di sini. Sejak kemerdekaan hinggalah sekarang, tidak pernah berlaku kejadian sedemikian. Mungkin ada mungkin tidak. Saya tidak begitu mengetahuinya.

Tetapi persoalan utama di sini ialah kedua-dua pihak, Pembangkang mahupun Pemerintah cuba untuk mengambil hati kaum-kaum tertentu selepas keputusan Pilihanraya ke-12 lalu menunjukkan bahawa kaum India sudah mula hilang sokongannya terhadap parti pemerintah. Mereka sebaliknya mula memberikan sokongan kepada pihak pembangkang yang menyaksikan BN hilang 2/3 majoritinya yang diperolehi sejak 1955 dan mengundi pembangkang hinggakan parti Pakatan Rakyat (it is not yet official, Jose!) berjaya memerintah beberapa negeri.

Saya tidaklah berminat untuk pergi lebih terperinci tentang perkara di atas. Biarlah ianya sebegitu. Namun yang menjadi kerisauan ialah wujud sifat berlumba-lumba di dalam mengambil hati golongan tertentu ini. Sepatutnya ianya tidak wujud sama sekali kerana setiap perkara yang hendak dilakukan itu dilaksanakan atas dasar mengimbangtara setiap aspek ekonomi. Bukanlah kerana hendak melakukannya atas dasar “pleasing” atau mengambil hati.

Terlalu banyak dasar yang dilaksanakan itu dilakukan kerana terdapat kecenderungan politik. Saya tidaklah mengatakan bahawa kerajaan Pakatan Rakyat mahupun Barisan Nasional tidak ikhlas. Tetapi kadangkala, demi kemakmuran rakyat dan perpaduan (yang semakin lama semakin meruncing!) sikap apolitical perlu diketengahkan. Rasanya tidak ada cacat celanya jika kerajaan negeri seperti Perak bekerjasama dengan pembangkang, demi mewujudkan keharmonian yang tercalar kebelakangan ini.

Saya tidak cuba mencadangkan agar diwujudkan kerajaan campuran. Tidak. Ianya tidak mungkin akan berlaku kerana dasar polisi dan ideologi yang berbeda-beda. Namun, kerjasama dari aspek kebajikan sosial dan masyarakat melalui penganjuran majlis-majlis sosial (bukan laman web sosial, Jose!) yang bercirikan kerakyatan dilakukan bersama.

Kerajaan Negeri di bawah Pakatan Rakyat harus pandai berpolitik jika ingin mendapatkan bantuan dari Kerajaan Pusat. Kadangkala mereka harus beralah dengan karenah Kerajaan Pusat (jika ada!) dan mengiakan sahaja, demi untuk kepentingan rakyat di bawah naungan negeri masing-masing.

Sebagai contoh, saya terlihat seperti ada nada-nada positif yang dilaungkan oleh parti PAS di dalam ingin bekerjasama dengan parti Barisan Nasional, khususnya UMNO di dalam membincangkan isu-isu berkaitan Islam. Jika mereka (PAS) sanggup “menahan” kerenah PKR (yang menuntut keadilan dari aspek Pemimpin Umumnya sahaja!) dan DAP (tidak pasti samada ideologi chauvanisme masih ada dalam parti itu!) apalah salahnya jika mereka bekerjasama dengan UMNO dari aspek membincangkan perkara yang berbangkit?

Semuanya boleh dilakukan. Hanya mahu atau tidak sahaja.

A LAYMAN'S POINT OF VIEW.

Is there a way for us to solve the massive traffic jam?

Perhaps the Goverment may consider increasing the road tax or the duty tax on all imported cars.

With such a huge amount of revenues collected it might help the Government to improve the public transport .

COST OF LIVING

This is how a RM2 Nasi Lemak looks like. Bought it in Seri Pentas. Now I know why corruption is so rampant nowadays.

Gone are the days when we can buy a pack of nasi lemak for 50cent.

A HEINOUS ACT

The rest room is no longer (Jose, I was not referring to doing THAT thing!) a safe place nowadays. After reading a news here I began to have strong doubt about the safety for us to use the rest room!

My worry is not on some peeping Tom recording a guy doing his thing in the gents as I have strong doubt that anyone would ever be interested to watch a guy easing himself (However there is an exception to those who are doing the guy’s thing, if you know what I mean, Jose!).

I am more worried on the privacy of the ladies as they are the ones who can easily fall trap to this heinous act! Anyone can just access the recorded clips in You Tube to watch it and have a wonderful time whilst doing it.

To all the ladies out there, just be extra careful before you do the necessary thing in the rest room, ok?

OUR ROAD TO UNITY FOR TRANQUILITY

Of late, there have been a lot of interesting issues raised both by the traditional and the alternative media, especially on the second sexual charge that involved one Opposition leader.

I obviously would not touch on “that” unusual sexual charge against the politician, as I don’t feel the same anticipation of the public interest in that case. At the same time, I would not want people to start throwing tantrums and accusing me of interrupting the on going trial!

I do not have the liberty to say if he really had committed that crime. I don’t care, as far as I am concerned! If he did, he then deserved to be tried and must allow the law to decide. Malaysians, comprises from all walks of life could not anticipate another brouhaha that had happened 10 years ago. By saying this, I am not giving an impression that I don’t bother with all the things happening around me.

I am more concerned about the unity amongst Malaysians which I’ve noticed have been distraught by lots of issues that touches on matters from religion, to the origins of race in Malaysia! (Go and read it in blogs and in the facebook comment, you’ll get a cleared picture of what I said Jose!)

We are too pre-occupied with the on going trial, to the point where we have forgotten the main root of the problem. The accused is just a human being. He is not a saint. He may do it, he may not. Let us allow the court to decide.

We can help to develop our country as Malaysians by contributing our ideas on ways to find solutions on many issues we are facing altogether. Among them are the decaying unity of the society, the rising demands for our cost of living, the misunderstanding of religion between us and the list goes on and on!

That is why I believe, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak had begin to use the new media approach (Jose, he has a facebook  account and a blog) as a bridge to be closer to the people and to get feedback from them.

Let us for once start using our rationale thinking and try to see things from a different angle. I believe we can do that.
