SUPPORTING THE NEEDY ONES BY SHOWING THEM THE RIGHT PATH

by - Hesmel Faznee Faisal

Salam, to fellow bloggers and readers of this self proclaimed blog!

The CSR activity in Malaysia has nowadays slowly becoming a trend of sorts. Every nook and cranny would want to organize it in many ways. Local company giants in the likes of Petronas, Media Prima Berhad (sounds familiar Jose!) and Proton have played their part in this activity. Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak had even mentioned recently that all companies should put their direction in line with the CSR exercise. (here) .

It shows how the CSR awareness has grown well in Malaysian society!

The entire fixation in doing CSR has left me but one major concern. What is the efficiency in doing it? We seldom emphasized on the importance of lending hand to support the unfortunate ones but have repeatedly ignored the core value of motivation and guidance to facilitate them to lead a better life. It is not a matter of just providing financial support but to ensure the continuity to accomplish success.

I strongly opposed to the idea of offering only financial assistance to shelter homes or sponsor selected orphans with good results to further their studies (This can lead to nepotism, Jose!). What about the future of the children who have less interest to study but are gifted in other fields? There is no substance whatsoever for that kind of practice.

In the cause for charity we have seen quite a number of events organized by major companies to celebrate the orphanage but have forgotten about their major needs. Their major issue has always been in the education field.

To ensure that they are properly guided by people who know the exact direction for them, all local and private universities can work together closely with companies who have resources to organize a programme dedicated to guide children to be successful in their life.

We have to realize that orphans, especially the younger ones are not so enthusiastic on receiving food or gifts. We seldom or never hear people in our country died due to starvation. What they needed most are guidance and support from us to show them the right path for them to follow.
