Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had accused UMNO as a party that is similar to that of Israel. The statement was made in one of the ceramah he had delivered in Kuala Terengganu, during one of his campaign trips for the by election in Kuala Terengganu, recently.
The UMNO leadership according to Anwar, is only concern of gathering wealth and while Israel is punishing the Palestinian people for choosing Hamas, the similarity to it was like Umno punishing Malaysians for choosing the Pakatan Rakyat.
Today, I read in the Sun dated 8 January 2009, he had expressed his willingness to join forces with UMNO Youth in a protest to condemn Israel’s offensive in the Gaza Strip. He was also reported as saying that he will also backed the “soon will be known as former Prime Minister” Abdullah Badawi’s move in calling for a UN emergency session in Gaza.
This is a sin for Anwar as he is willing to work with the Israelis, if you consider the terminology of him accusing UMNO acting like an Israeli party!
For me, this is just another example politicking at the right place and the right time.
Either he is banking on the Palestine and Israel conflict in West Gaza or, he is just doing what he is good at, saying something that has a double meaning in it.
Why must he criticize a party that he himself was in it for more than 16 years and later show his willingness to join forces with it in condemning the aggression?
As I had already mentioned earlier, this scenario reminds me of a Malay proverb, “Meludah ke langit, akhirnya jatuh ke batang hidung sendiri”.
Only God knows a person’s sincerity and only He has the knowledge of what will happen next in the future.
